Circular Fashion- The way forward
Let us take a closer look at what happens to our clothes from the moment they are made until they're worn and eventually discarded. It is a journey that starts with raw materials like cotton or polyester, which are spun into yarns and then turned into textiles. These textiles are dyed, printed, and sewn into garments, embellished with buttons, beads and embroidered with threads.
Once made, these clothes are shipped to stores and eventually end up in our closets. We wear them, wash them, and wear them again until they are worn out or we do not want them anymore. That is when they are thrown away, often ending up in landfills where they take a long time to break down, releasing harmful gases into the air.
This process has a big impact on the environment. Making clothes uses a lot of energy and resources, and shipping them around the world adds to pollution. Plus, many clothes are made from materials that do not break down easily, causing even more problems when they're thrown away. When we talk about being conscious and sustainable, we need to make smart choices about what clothes we buy and how we use them, with this we can all play a small part in creating a more sustainable future.
Our focus as an individual should be taking baby steps in reducing our carbon footprint, saving water, minimizing textile waste, and recovering plastic. Now is the time we start to embrace the principles of the circular economy—reuse, recycle, recapture, redeploy, and safe disposal of end-of-life products.
Many companies have started to shift from linear to circular fashion strategy paving the way for a more sustainable future. Companies like H&M encourages customer to donate their clothes, Indian fashion brands like Summer somewhere shop and Fancy pastels even encourages reselling of the outfit. Companies are now moving towards slow fashion and with so many options in hand we as consumers need to make conscious choice.
On a similar concept of circular fashion we are starting Nivoraa. Our garments are made to order, ensuring a perfect fit for every body type, and promoting a minimal wardrobe culture. By focusing on functionality and comfort, we aim to eliminate the need for alterations and reduce wastage. Moreover, our products are designed to be reusable, low-maintenance, and avoid synthetic fabrics, aligning with our commitment to sustainability. This approach permeates every aspect of our operations, from material extraction to manufacturing to product end-of-life. Even at the end of a product's life, disassembly has no negative environmental impact, as discarded items are upcycled in our production centers and reintroduced to the market with new designs.
Our aim is to generate employment opportunities, empower end users to make sustainable choices, and influence the broader fashion industry. By reducing carbon emissions, promoting a healthy environment, and minimizing plastic waste, we are paving the way for a more sustainable future. Our revolution extends beyond commerce—it's a call to action for individuals, businesses, and society as a whole. As we don our garments, let's not just clothe ourselves; let's embrace change and collectively work towards a harmonious coexistence with our planet.
